Our ‘Women Film-Makers’ segment wants to try to showcase the work of budding women directors. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be making films as a profession, or submitting them to festivals, you can submit something you made for a school project, or just lil experimental stuff you’ve shot by yourself or with friends. All we need is a bit of writing about yourself and the film, and a working YouTube/Vimeo link. Click here for more details on how to submit.
UNIVERZE tells the story of Ze Rebelle, who felt she doesn’t belong on the planet she was from. As she was being captured by the authorities, a mysterious figure comes to her rescue. At once, and to her relief, her life was never the same again. These metaphors portrayed are everything but a fantasy in Rebelle’s personal journey as an artist. She is in fact taking a stance for all those like her, the outcasts and the odd ones out. Welcome to her Univerze.
Ze Rebelle is an electro-pop artist who travels the univerze in The Glam Mothership performing in clubs and festivals like Tomorrowland, SXSW, ADE, Beatpatrol, Dancevalley, Amsterdam Gay Pride, Winter Sound System and a Rolling Stone showcase. Sharing the stage with amazing artists like Joachim Garraud, Steke Aoki, Laidback Luke, Crookers, Autoerotique, Chicks on Speed and The Vengaboys! Her songs have been heard on many radio stations, seen on MTV, picked up by popular TV shows like 90201, MTV’s The City, Real World, FOX Network’s ‘The League’, Quiksilver Pro (New York, France) and FIFA Street 2012 video game. She’s been featured on CNN iReport, United Nations’ Global Goals, LA Weekly, MTV Iggy and on the cover of Juice magazine.
Filmmaking is a new concept for Ze Rebelle. It took her almost two years to come up with the story and concept to go with her album (Univerze is released in conjuction with Ze Rebelle’s latest album), and get the right people on board. She tried for months to find a co-director but had no luck, so decided to take matters into her own hands. The film tells her personal spiritual journey, of finding herself, because she has always felt like she’s been looking for a tribe or place to belong. With Univerze, she hopes to connect with others in the same way.
