1. Hail, Caeser!

The Coen Brothers latest film is delving into 1950’s Hollywood and a booming film studio with a star studded cast from the likes of Channing Tatum, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Josh Brolin and Tilda Swinton. The plot of the film follows Brolin, who is trying to manage all the studios productions and their latest feature, when it’s lead star (Clooney) is kidnapped and held for ransom. Expect some gorgeous visuals, comedy and that fantastic musical dash the Coen Brothers achieved with Inside Llewyn Davis and O Brother Where Art Thou?

2.Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

The latest venture into the wizarding world planet earth came to know and love, FBAWTFT is based on the book that Harry Potter reads, following Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) in New York who appears to be tracking down some magical creatures that have escaped from a case. It’s gonna be interesting (and very, very wrong) to see how wizards get along in the old U S of A.

3.Bridget Jones’ Baby

The long awaited next instalment in the Bridget Jones franchise, 12 years after the last one, sees good old Bridget enter her 40’s and motherhood. We’re expecting a lot of laughs from this one, and great to see that Bridget Jones’ Diary director Sharon Maguire is also returning along with Zellweger, Firth and…. Ed Sheeran?

4.The Witch

This 1630’s horror film gained huge praise and attention when it premièred at Sundance this summer where it won the Directing Award for the U.S category. The film follows a Puritan family who feel sinister forces in the woods that tear their family apart. It’s being distrubuted by A24 Films which is pretty much a heads up that its going to be really, really great.

5.Room

Already released in the U.S and popping up in many ‘best films of 2015’ lists, Britain have to wait a few more weeks for this to grace our screens. Adapted from the novel by Emma Donoghue, who also pens the screenplay, Room is a deeply emotional and moving film about a mother and son who escape from the small room they have been confined to by their captor Old Nick. The film particularly focuses on the discoveries of Jack, the son, who has never seen the outside world. Expect Oscar nominations very, very soon

6.The Revenant

Another one the yanks have already got their hands on, Oscar winner Alejandro Gonzalez Intarritu’s latest delves into the 1820’s and follows a rugged and grunting Leonardo Dicpario as he plots revenge against the people who left him for dead after a bear attack. Yes, you’ve probably already heard rumours about this bear scene, and you’ve also probably heard that it’s amazing. Set against a barren and violent Montana and South Dakota landscape the cinematography, and the fact the film was lit entirely with natural light, is sure to be mind-blowing.

7.The Hateful Eight

The final in the list of already-released-in-America films is Tarantino’s big and bold Western outing starring his usual gang of regulars and some new faces such as Jennifer Jason Leigh.  Coming in at just over 3 hours and showing in select cinemas in 70mm with set intermissions, this one is set up as a perfect foundation for Quentin’s gift of the gab; a bounty hunter and prisoner arrive at a log cabin where a multitude of characters also happen to be, and the group become snowed in.

8.The BFG

Spielberg has had a successful year with the release of Bridge of Spies, but takes a very different route for his next film- a live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl’s much loved children’s novel, The BFG, which was previously an animated feature back in 1989. The teaser trailer for this dropped just a few weeks ago and it was magnificent and a little bit creepy, but I’m sure things will lighten up as the film progresses, after all, Bill Hader is playing the giant, how much more big and friendly can you get, really?

9.Ghostbusters

YES. Oooooobviously, Ghostbusters is a classic, and yes, this probably won’t have the same level of charm as the original, BUT, we are entering 2016, and the future is bright and full of women. I don’t need to explain the plot, these wonderful ladies above are the only reason you need to go and see this. And those new suits look like a fantastic Halloween costume option for anyone not feeling the cat vibe or want a full range of movement for amazing dance moves.

10.Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Now this right here is for niche audiences, and I am that niche audience. Zombies, chicks with weapons and period costume, I AM THERE. The premise of the Jane Austen novel is the same, romance in the early 1800’s England, centring around the Bennett sisters, but this time, with zombies. Sold.

11.The Neon Demon

Nicholas Winding-Refn is a master of the thriller and I can’t wait to see what he’s cooked up with The Neon Demon, a film that I sincerly hope, is drowned in the neon lighting he is so loved for, with a title like Neon Demon, why wouldn’t you? Elle Fanning heads the film as a young model who is taken in by a group of beauty obsessed individuals. Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves, Jena Malone and Jamie Clayton also star.

12.The Jungle Book

We recently received a brand new full trailer for this live-animation just a couple months ago and boy, does it look dark. This isn’t the Jungle Book we remember from our childhood. With some of Hollywoods most famous voices lending their pipes to this flick, including queen Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Christoper Walken and Ben Kingsley. It’s going to be amazing.

13.High-Rise

The next flick from British director Ben Wheatley of ‘Kill List’ fame. The man, like Winding-Refn, is also a master of the thriller and it’s going to be great to see how Tom Hiddleston lends himself to a possibly more sinister (no, not Loki cartoonish sinister) role. The trailer is painted like an advertisement for a new tower block and details all the fabulous features it has and all the great stuff you can do there…but I would assume, things are not all that they seem.

14.Suicide Squad

I for one am ready for a darker take on superheros, I love me some spider-man and all that but the hero world has become over-saturated with bright colours and stupid accents and I want something mean and dirty. Suicide Squad has all of that and Jared Leto’s turn as the joker is sure to be one of the talking points of the year.

15.Deadpool

Over the Christmas period the Deadpool promos have been enough to tantalise everyone’s taste-buds until its release in February. Ryan Reynolds first appeared as Wade Wilson in X Men Origins: Wolverine after which he becomes severely disfigured but is saved and offered a new lease of life at the hands of Colonel William Stryker who turns him into a military weapon with increased healing powers and a razor sharp tongue. It’s going to be simultaneously hilarious and violent- my faves.

16.Yoga Hosers

Kevin Smith’s next film welcomes his daughter back to the screen alongside Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose in this Canadian comedy about an ‘evil presence that is threatening their party plans’. If Tusk is anything to go by, this is gonna be really, really weird. The cast is huge and includes Johnny Depp, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Kevin Smith, Haley Joel Osment, Stan Lee, Natasha Lyonne, Jason Mewes, Tyler Posey and Justin Long. Phew.

17.The Home For Peculiar Children

Based on the novel by Ransom Riggs, not much has yet been put out yet about The Home For Peculiar Children, Tim Burton’s next feature, but it stars Asa Butterfield, Samuel L. Jackson, and Eva Green and follows a young boy (Butterfield) who ends up on an island where he discovers an old school where powerful children used to live. If Burton’s filmography is anything to go by, this could be pretty creepy and an absolute visual delight.

18.The Bad Batch

Ana Lily Amirpour, the director of genre-defying A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, is back with what seems to be another genre-defying spectacle. A cannibal story set in dystopian Texas with romance at its heart, Jim Carey , Keanu Reeves and Jason Moama (Game of Thrones) are in the not-yet-described lead roles and with such big names attached hopefully this will get the wide release it deserves and give us another amazing chance to support women film-makers.

19.Cell

‘What would be do without our phones?’ seems to be the tired question every 40 something wants to ask around the dinner table, well now, we can put that question to bed and watch this Stephen King adaptation instead starring Samuel L. Jackson, Isabelle Fuhrmann and John Cusack. In this case, phones send the world into an apocalyptic daze, this could be on of the big non-superhero action flicks of the year with some serious destruction in its path.

20.Bleed For This

If you weren’t already in love with Miles Teller, then watch him run around shirtless in this and start to get the picture. Boxing films have a huge market at the moment with Southpaw and Creed in 2015 making waves but this one is different, this film is a biopic, about boxer Vinny Pazienza, who made an unthinkable comeback after a life-altering accident. If boxing doesn’t interest you, then watch for what could potentially be an award-winning performance from Teller.
